Israeli tactics collide with peace process

NETANYA, Israel: Suicide bombings in Israel have dropped off so significantly that the nation's security officials now dare to speak openly of success. But the very steps they are taking to thwart bombers appear to collide head on with the government's agenda of achieving peace with the Palestinians.

It is a classic military-political dilemma. The progress in stopping suicide bombers, the vast majority of whom cross into Israel from the West Bank, has brought enough quiet for Israel to resume peace talks with the Palestinian leadership there.

But the current calm is fragile, and to maintain it Israeli security officials say they must continue their nightly arrests and sometimes deadly raids in the heart of the West Bank - tactics at odds with a peace process that envisions a separate Palestinian state, an eventual Israeli withdrawal from much of the West Bank and, in the meantime, a gradual handover of authority to the Palestinian police.

"The price of staying out" of the West Bank, said a senior Israeli military official, "might be one that we don't want to pay." The military's faith in its efforts comes across in charts showing a steep decline in suicide bombings - from a high of 59 in 2002 to only one in 2007, and one so far this year.

Sucicide Bomb Attacks in Israel drop dramatically and Israel refuses to accept the Olive Branch from the Palestinians.

Israel respondes instead with more attacks on civilian neighborhoods with indiscriminate anti-personnel weapons.

Did you actually serve, and if so did you actually serve in a Combat Zone? I don't mean like Al Gore dipping his Fat Toes in teh South China Sea, or John Kerry riding around in a fucking boat, I mean REAL HARD CORE Combat?

Your continual comments about US and Israeli forces firing into CIVILIANS, tells me you are damned naive and maybe you quote BOOKS and The Military Channel, along with Move On-DNC tripe!!

The COWARDLY fucking Islamic slime are gutless and they HIDE among civilians or use them for shields, and you end up firing back into an area that may have contained some innocents?? Guess who else was GOOD at this? The fucking VC in Nam, and my Dad told me many times they RESCUED these villagers, and unfortunately some times they ended up being fired upon, due to the COWARDLY practices used by Liberal HEROS, the VC and the Terrorists of the Mid East!!

It is difficult to summarize many months of combat, because there are many different situations. I think some people do a dis-service by trying to explain how they felt one day, in one situation. The listeners over generalize what they hear and apply it to the entire period or country.

Perhaps you should asked your Dad if he was ever happy he rescued a woman or child ... or ask about any happy experiences.

Sure ther were, but he spent most of his tour in Ashau Valley area, so it was damn rough, and yes he saved many a villagers ass from the VC! They were not the ones storming the perimeter of a Fire Base, so therefore stopping those gooks at any cost was the way to go!

This thread is not about our military.

It is about Israel's terrorism and refusal to enter a ceasefire since:
- Hamas political victory in 2006, and
- Hamas (essentially) ending sucicide bombings.

It is also odd that Bush, Cheney and Rice prefer Fatah, Yasir Arafat's party, and reject Hamas. Perhap Bush doesn't want peace in the Mideast.

Also, I suspect the 2 sucicide bombings in the last 2 years were likely done by the Israeli Mossad. They are famed for performing terrorism and blaming it on others.
