NOGALES, Ariz. -- Border agents seized a tractor-trailer Monday containing 3,418 pounds of marijuana valued at $5.5 million, according to authorities.
The tractor-trailer was carrying cucumbers destined for California and Sinaloa, authorities said.
Officers unloaded the boxes of produce and said drug-sniffing dogs discovered bundles of marijuana hidden among the cucumbers.
Agents said they discovered a total of 144 bundles of marijuana after searching the entire tractor-trailer.
The discovery came less than two weeks after officers found another tractor-trailer carrying 1,340 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $2.1 million.
Since October 2007, approximately 15,878 pounds of marijuana, estimated to be worth more than $25.5 million, have been seized by U.S Customs and Border Protection.
