VIENNA (Reuters) - Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan and the government of President George W. Bush were to blame for the U.S. financial crisis, Nobel laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz said in a magazine interview.

"This man (Greenspan) has unfortunately made a lot of mistakes," said former World Bank chief economist Stiglitz, according to a preview of the interview to be published on Monday in profil magazine.

"His first one was to support all the tax cuts which were introduced under Bush -- they didn't stimulate the economy very much ... This task was then transferred more towards monetary policy, though then (Greenspan) created a flood of credits with low interest rates," Stiglitz was quoted as saying.

Earlier in April, Greenspan said in an interview with CNBC television that the U.S. economy was in recession and defended his chairmanship of the U.S. central bank against charges that his policy missteps had laid the groundwork for the crisis.

He said decisions during his charge had been rationally constructed based on evidence at the time.

Stiglitz said Bush's government was also to blame.

"I reproach them, that the economy was not as resilient as it could have been due to the ongoing tax cuts and the huge costs incurred by the war in Iraq," he was quoted as saying.

He said it was a myth that Europe could decouple itself from the United States.

"Especially the weak dollar will continue to hit the European economy hard, because it will make it much harder to export," he said.

This guy is wrong! It is the free market non regulated financial industry that is culpable for this ethical dilemma. Thank RR and Milton Friedman for the state of affairs we are in. The hippies brought free love RR brought ethics free profit.

Your messin' with my head, it surely can't be because of Reagan.

Giver you an example of how halfhiemer he was. First year taxes were changed by exponentially increaseing the rate of depreciation from life of the equipment purchased to Accelerated cost recover system. The purpose of which was to increase purchasing new equipment.
Well it worked so well the next year the tax code was changed to the modified accelerated cost recovery system.
The next year tax ratres were increased.

Greenspan screwed the pooch.

Many tax breaks, as April15 notes, were less obvious to the public.

Data changes have been made that make things "appear" to be better than they are.

Like these:
(Disclaimer: I haven't read this guy's stuff, but he seems to be on the right track.)

They have been cooking the books for years under many Presidents, both Democrap and Pub! No one person needs take total blame, all are culpable and all have sold us down the river....

Now, with the state of the world in general, terrorism at the heels of good men all over the world, world oil prices, food prices on the increase...the threat of $10 a gallon gasoline in the future.....we are SCREWED!
Not only can we blame politicians, the current Congress is as much to blame as anyone......we can also lay much blame at the feet of Enviromentalists. They shoulder the unique responsibility for creating factors, real or imagined, that have contributed to the rise of EVERYfucking thing!
So...spread the blame, many have created it and many will cause the collapse of the USA which will occur if not checked soon!
Obie and Hillary will not help the situation either...they will add to it!

How many of you here know that UN troops train in the USA for urban warfare?
How many know that there are closed but renovated military bases all over the US, waiting to be used as prison camps for civil unrest?
How many here know that there are flat cars on side tracks in Az. carrying brand new UN armored vehicles?

How many here think that we will have massive civil disobedience and bloodshed if gas goes to $10 a gal. and people are starving, angry, w/o jobs and can't afford to put fuel in their vehicles...thus causing the collapse of the infrastructure of the USA?

How many here realize that Bush and Reagan are/were only drops of paint on a huge canvas in the display of a larger picture still unknown??
