You got to love idiots like mclame. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/23/mccain-opposes-equal-pay-_n_98342.htmlDemocrats criticized McCain for opposing the bill.

"Senator McCain has yet again fallen in line with President Bush while middle-class families are falling by the wayside," Clinton said in a statement following the vote. "Women are earning less, but Senator McCain is offering more of the same."

Democratic National Committee spokeswoman Karen Finney said: "At a time when American families are struggling to keep their homes and jobs while paying more for everything from gasoline to groceries, how on Earth would anyone who thinks they can lead our country also think it's acceptable to oppose equal pay for America's mothers, wives and daughters?"

McCain stated his opposition to the bill as he campaigned in rural eastern Kentucky, where poverty is worse among women than men. The Arizona senator said he was familiar with the disparity but that there are better ways to help women find better paying jobs.

"They need the education and training, particularly since more and more women are heads of their households, as much or more than anybody else," McCain said. "And it's hard for them to leave their families when they don't have somebody to take care of them.

At least he stopped short of saying women need to remain barefoot and pregnant. :pissed

Further proof that he (and the other candidates) are so out of touch with the 'real' world Americans live in it's pathetic. Until MEN in the business world change their attitudes about families - headed by both men and women - there will always be this gap.

Once, I had a co-worker who graduated from Auburn - an Ag/Engineering school - with a liberal arts degree. I graduated from Clemson - another Ag/Engineering school - with a liberal arts degree. Our jobs were identical - he covered East and Central part of the country - I covered South and West. He was three years older than I was, I'd been an the company one year longer than him.

He was making $10,000 more than me. I found out by accident and hit the roof. When I finally got the meeting with HR to discuss this blatant gap, I was told that K was about to be married and would have a wife to support. WTF? The fuckhead behind the desk was dead serious - he felt that the man - with identical credentials and education to me, should be compensated that much more because he was going to have to take care of the poor wittle wifey poo at home. Forget that poor wittle wifey poo to be was a freaking doctor - she could more than take care of her wittle hubby to be.

I went to mediation over it with full intention of hiring a lawyer. They settled by upping my grade but I didn't get the $10K he had already been making. I was allowed to transfer out of the division, though.

This was four years ago - not ten - not twenty. Four. 2004!

Yeah - we've come a long way, baby - and John McCain is a clueless fuckhead for making a boneheaded comment like 'get more education, honey'. :wall

I'm writing in Mickey Mouse for president in November - I can't stand any of these assholes!

Good for you, Partyless.

He is out of touch with recent SC cases, obviously. :(
