Obama called Ferraro's comments "patently absurd."
"I don't think Geraldine Ferraro's comments have any place in our politics or in the Democratic Party. They are divisive. I think anybody who understands the history of this country knows they are patently absurd," he told the Allentown Morning Call. "And I would expect that the same way those comments don't have a place in my campaign they shouldn't have a place in Senator Clinton's either."

Hint. You normally do not called for an opponent to fire a member of their staff for something that you consider to be true. http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/03/top_obama_adviser_hillary_must.phpA few days after the Hillary campaign successfully claimed Samantha Power's scalp, the Obama campaign is out to force the Hillary camp to dump one of its own: Geraldine Ferraro.
On a conference call with reporters just now, top Obama adviser David Axelrod called on the Hillary camp to remove Ferraro from her position as major fundraiser for the campaign....
Axelrod, on the call, said of Ferraro: "She ought to be removed...there's no other way to send a serious sign that you want to change the tone of the campaign." He added that the remark was part of an "insidious pattern."
It's unclear exactly what Ferraro's role is. She's merely identified on the campaign's Web site as a "Hillraiser," which is to say a major fundraiser with an unofficial role. But she described herself as a member of the campaign's finance committee.

Ferraro, again: "Attacking me because I'm white"
Ferraro calls the Daily Breeze back, and re-iterates the Clinton's campaign's allegation that Obama is playing the race card.
"Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let's address reality and the problems we're facing in this world, you're accused of being racist, so you have to shut up," Ferraro said. "Racism works in two different directions. I really think they're attacking me because I'm white. How's that?"
Whichever side of the current spin war you buy, or partially buy, this is a very tough case for Ferraro, in particular, to make -- given that the Clinton campaign has already distanced itself from from her original statement.
But it seems like almost a dare to Obama to re-open the issue, a willingness to drag Obama into an argument over race.
ALSO: She stood by the comment on Fox, below.
"What I find offensive is everytime somebody says something about the campaign, you're accused of being racist," she said. http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0308/Ferraro_again_Attacking_me_because_Im_white.html#
Interesting response. I don't agree with Obama that it was racist. Probably stupid, but he is totally unqualified to be POTUS, and wouldn't be a canidate if he weren't black. And I am not a racist.

A great many people in this country want a black to be president, think the time is right, and think Obama is attractive enough to win. That isn't racist. A lot of people think the time is right for a woman to be president, and think Clinton is qualified, and could win. That isn't sexist. It is being tired of old, white, Christian men being the only ones who get to be president.
Pointing out that the country, or the Democrats in particular, have deliberately chosen a black and a woman, is not racist or sexist. It is something the Democrats should be and are proud of
Now, lets hear the Republicans say how proud they are to have a shriveled up old white man running for president.

I don't agree that this is some sort of plan being carried out. The fact that Obama is black and Clinton is a woman are unavoidable and certainly noteworthy given our nation's history...but to pin their success on those factors is short sighted.
The "time is right" for a qualified person with integrity and vision to become POTUS. I don't think race or gender are going to help anyone lacking those qualities get into the White House this time around.
The Democrats had a wonderful slate of candidates to choose from. I just hate the caucus thing that keeps some of the good ones from really getting a chance let the country decide if they are viable.
The Republicans didn't have much to choose from and McCain was chosen by default.
I wish there was less said about his age, which is not the major factor, and more said about his policies.
I think the McSame name fits well.
If you liked Bush/Cheney you are going to love McCain because he has even more wars in planned.
For all of those who believe that you strike first and then try diplomacy with a set of preconditions, Mac is your man.
I believe he would have had that same attitude at age 40 ~ so it's not about age.
As for Obama not calling the stement untrue, just how clear does one have to make the picture for you, Cap?
As Democrats, we expect more of our party members.
I am very disappointed in the statements coming from the Hillary camp. Her past actions do not indicate that this is the way she thinks.
Someone is apparently remembering that Corker became our Senator from TN by allowing the race card to be played.
I don't think it will get past the whole country like it did TN which has turned red for a while now.

That is why AA doesn't work.
The last two Democratic Presidential candidates (Gore & Kerry) had a wider range of experience, including Military Direct Ground Combat.
I guess the Conservative Drive By Press is going to wait till the General Election to ask Obama and Hillary why they selected the same non-military service option as Chickenhawk Cheney and the rest of the other GOP Chickenhawks.
Obama answer: Oh I was playing basketball and doing drugs instead.
Hillary answer: I got hit with a badmittion wicket once, does that count?
The GOP will shove these two AA candidates up the Democratic Party's ass soon. All the wimp asses will soon be wondering WTF happened to them.

This idiot had made similar racists comments before http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/3/11/21956/1233/291/474642Okay, I'm convinced. Geraldine Ferraro is a bona fide racist. April 15, 1988, Washington Post:And former representative Geraldine A. Ferraro (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that because of his "radical" views, "if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn't be in the race."
Asked about this at a campaign stop in Buffalo, Jackson at first seemed ready to pounce fiercely on his critics. But then he stopped, took a breath, and said quietly, "Millions of Americans have a point of view different from" Ferraro's.
Discussing the same point in Washington, Jackson said, "We campaigned across the South . . . without a single catcall or boo. It was not until we got North to New York that we began to hear this from Koch, President Reagan and then Mrs. Ferraro . . . . Some people are making hysteria while I'm making history."
So forget about chalking this up to dementia.

Ferraro has finally been forced out of the clinton campaign http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/03/12/ferraro-steps-down/Geraldine Ferraro has stepped down from her role as a member of Hillary Clinton's finance committee.
In a letter to Clinton obtained by CNN's Suzanne Malveaux — who spoke with the former vice presidential candidate shortly after she sent it to Clinton — Ferraro said she is stepping down so, "I can speak for myself and you can continue to speak for yourself about what is at stake in this campaign."Does anyone believe that she was not asked to leave the clinton campaign?

BTW, for those who are too dense to understand Senator Obama's first response, here is another statement where it is clear that he disagrees with the "stement" of Ferraro as well as Ferraro's statements. http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2008/03/obama_stop_slicing_and_dicing.html Declining to describe her remarks as racist, Obama called them simply “ridiculous.’’
“People say things during the heat of campaigns’’ Obama said. “What I’m more concerned is for the Democratic Party as a whole, but also the country as a whole, not to get drawn up into this slicing and dicing of the electorate into black, white, male and female.’’
Cnvincing voters of his worthiness for the presidency remains his own challenge, he said.
“My general attitude is that if I’m not winning them over, it’s my fault,’’ the senator said. “I haven’t done something right. It’s not because of their attitudes. It’s because I haven’t connected, I haven’t spoken to their hopes and dreams and aspirations in a way that makes them feel confident that I’m going to deliver for them.
“That’s how it should be,’’ he said. “The presidency is a hard job and there are no excuses for non-performance. When the American people entrust you with not just their own safety and security and prosperity, but the futures of their children and their grandchildren, they have the right to run you through the paces. And I feel privileged to be getting run through the paces so well.”
Obama was asked if he believes that Ferraro’s comments are racist.
“I’m always hesitant to throw around words like racist,’’ he said. “I don’t think she intended them in that way. I’ve noted that today she was suggesting that somehow we have made that claim and in fact argued it repeatedly we’ve said that anybody who criticizes me is making racial comments, racially offensive comments.
"I would defy anybody to look through the record over the last year and a half or the last year and couple months and find one instance in which I have said some criticism is racially based,'' he said. "That is not something that I’ve done,.
"Here’s what I do believe,'' Obama said. "I think that her comments were ridiculous. I think they were wrong-headed. I think they’re not borne out of our history or by the facts. The notion that it is a great advantage for me to be an African American named Barack Obama in pursuit of the presidency, I think, is not a view that is commonly shared by the general public.
“If you pulled out a handbook of how to weigh your assets and liabilities in a presidential race,’’ he said, “I don’t think my name or my skin color would be in the asset column.
“Part of the idea of this campaign is that we can get beyond his and focus on what we have in common,’’ he said. “Now, it’s hard to do. I understand it’s hard to do. I understand it’s very tempting to look at exit polls and take a look at how the votes are breaking down and who’s going where. I don’t want to deny the role of race and gender in our society.
“They’re there and they’re powerful. But I don’t think it’s productive. I don’t think identity politics has served the Democratic Party well. I think it’s been an enormous distraction. When we are in these conversations, it means that people are not recognizing their common concerns around health care, their common interests in getting decent jobs, their common interests in making sure that we’re not loading up the national debt for the next generation. So to that extent, I think it was an unfortunate remark and I said so. It encourages and feeds into the divisive politics that ultimately does not serve us well…
“Here is what I believe,’’ he said. “The American people are looking for a president who cares about them who is listening to them who is fighting for them and who can deliver on some of the critical issues that they are facing. If I make that case, I will win. If I don’t make that case, I will lose.’’ Just to make clear, when Senator Obama says that these statements are wrong-headed, ridiculous and not borne out by the facts, that means he disagrees with these statements.
