It just gets to me how much society has changed and not for the better. Used to be when someone did something wrong people were suprised NOW people are suprised when someone does something honest.

Have we as people degenerated that much? I thought that as we grew in intelligence, knowledge, and as the human race we were supposed to get better. If this is better then I don't want it.

By E you mean extra or one of those?
Yes this society has taken a shit in the last few years. I don't want to sound like a basher but, I think the root cause is what people perceive of their leaders. Like for instance when Raygun was president, not that I cared for him, he had an aura of truth and justice. So Americans acted in the same manner. Then in comes Clinton, I liked his term, and all these scandals are brought out by conservatives to discredit him. Granted he did lie under oath and most likely should have been impeached and tossed out.
Well the people see this and say well if he can do it so can I.
Then PNAC comes out with their mission of world control in 96. The people can see the writting on the wall and begin to go on a me first and screw you binge.
Now we have what we have and is it any wonder people have no pride or ethics?

Is there something specific you're referring? :think

I've most always been more surprised when people do wrong than the other way around. :shrug But, I do live inside my own little bubble. :lmao

Well I saw a lady drop ten dollars, when I ran up to her to give it back she said she was suprised (and impressed) that someone would do that. I hear stories like that all the time but when someone robs a bank or steals a car no one seems the least bit suprised.

We also have a generation that thinks they can get away with oral sex cause it ain't really sex. Hey, that's what the president said.

That must have been hard to admit!

Good for you...

Rev. I got our credit card statement. On it was an authorized charge for a "police charity". I call the credit card, tell them I didn't charge it, and they say well it's for charity. I called the number, the person hasn't called me back. People will do anything for a buck or to get a head today. :(

We were getting ready to move, had 2nd car for sale. The buyer knew my hubby just got back from Iraq and we were moving across country. The car was only $1200, he gave us $800 cash and a bounced $400 check. :( We found out when we moved to AZ and would've had to flown back to GA to file charges.

"You and I have the misfortune to live in a time and media culture when people think the loudness of the argument matters more than the coherence of it, when threats and intimindation substiture f,or logic and reason, a time of made-up "facts" and ideological "truth" a time when critical thinking is a lost art and ignorance is ascendant. Leonard Pitts

This sounds so much like some people who post on MB's.

I disagree. I think this can be a thread about politics. Certainly our leaders, republicans and democrats, are not great examples for our country. That has trickle down effects and I think that both Capitalist and April15 are right.

That I agree with but turning this into another liberal blame conservative and visa versa thread is not what it is about.

I wouldn't say it is bashing to point out some of our leaders lack of ethics or principles. We do tend to use leaders as examples of life. That is why sports heros have been held in high regard until lately. Humans mimic what is seen more so than what is taught when it comes to morals or ethics. Many people make fun of the christian religous for not being what they percieve christians should be. How about Jack Morman?
We also have a more saturated intake of information/news than 10 years ago not to mention 20 years ago. If anything it very well could be the media is a large part of disseminating the stories of corruption so frequently that we as a people have no problem with a little cheating now and then. It doesn't bode well either way.
