View Full Version : Michelle Obama talking out her ass...

Listening to Michelle Obama telling a group, that for the first time in her life, she is proud of her country.

She wasn't proud of how we came together after 911? She wasn't proud when the wall came down? She wasn't proud when Bill did Monica?

We have to remember, this is a family of privilege. They both went to private schools, they didn't have to battle discrimination in the streets, they are millionaires. They are nothing like the avg. black in the hood.....any hood! Actually, they are nothing like most of us...

Not funny....YOU know there was a lot more to it than that....thousands of volunteers traveled from all over the country to NY to help! People from ALL walks of Life!
Millions of dollars were raised by various groups and concerts to help with the tragedy.....and much more.

And thousands of volunteers went to New Orleans, but that didn't bring our country together.

I'm not discounting the efforts surrounding 911, Katrina or anything else, I'm just saying that it didn't do anything to heal the religious, ethnic, socio-economic or gender rifts that we all deal with daily.

Wabbi, you want to talk about what is or isn't "coming together" fine, let's do so. But trying to slam Obama's wife, or any other candidate over this is stupid.

But when hatred and stupidity is all you've got, it's what you lead with.

My God you people are going to be cryin come November.:zen

The only thing that can help with the mentioned conditions is a new administration with a new direction. That being away from corporations and wealthy first to one of cooperation. This may be hard for some to handle but it is the only way the world will make it past Bush.

First of all.....she said it is the first time that she's been REALLY proud of her country in her adult life. That could mean that she's been proud many times before...just not "really" proud.

Second...she was referring to the throngs of people who are voting. Her comments were addressing a particular characteristic of the US that has made her proud.

She will certainly clarify it for those who don't get it. It is obvious that she has been proud to be American before this time....she just decided to add emphasis to her comments.

Do we really want to parse words here?

I mean she's going for First Lady, not POTUS. Should we begin to match up the stupid things she has said versus those of our current POTUS? If so, where's Wabbi's comments about how horrible W is?:deadshot

Lets look at the full quote http://thepage.time.com/m-obamas-comments-in-milwaukee/“What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback. And let me tell you something — for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. I’ve seen people who are hungry to be unified around some basic common issues, and it’s made me proud.” An Obama spokesman had this comment http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0208/For_the_first_time.htmlObama spokesman Bill Burton sends over a statement:
Of course Michelle is proud of her country, which is why she and Barack talk constantly about how their story wouldn't be possible in any other nation on Earth. What she meant is that she's really proud at this moment because for the first time in a long time, thousands of Americans who've never participated in politics before are coming out in record numbers to build a grassroots movement for change.

Well DS, to be fair, the matter at hand is Michelle Obama. No amount of talk about W is going to change what she said. That has no bearing on the matter at all.

What we need is for people to be honest with themselves when something like this becomes news. Wabby knows that Michelle Obama is not anti-American. He knows that she just overstated her joy at seeing the country rally around her husband's campaign. But...her coming off as a disgruntled citizen could in some way damage her husband's chances at becoming POTUS...so Wabby chose to put it out there as he did. Lets see things for what they are.

I have no problem seeing things as they are, LL. But I would request that if we're going to hold the comments of a possible First Lady to such high scrutiny, that the comments of the POTUS should be held to the same measure.

I understand your point and believe you are absolutely correct in your assessment of the thread and why Wabbi started it. I'm simply pointing out that should Wabbi, or others wish to continue down this path that they look equally as hard at the speech of those who are truly in power.:deadshot

Here is the thing, at least as I see it, The US has never been unified completely. There has always been opposing viewpoints. It is still alive and well. I am amazed at the number of democrats that rally around them. If they were the republican candidate the dems would have pointed out all the things Wabash did.

Fact is Michelle Obama should watch what she says and should know that all things she says will be picked apart.

Considering how the GOP is imploding when confronted with a "Kinder, Gentler" conservatism of McCain, yeah from a Liberal aspect it is kinda funny.

But my guess is that we're both laughing for soley different reasons...:LL

I have said it before and I will say it again I cannot see how you can think you can speak for Conservatives. I don't even pretend to know why all liberals love a wealthy, privledged candidate.

There are plenty of things about McCain that aren't kinder or gentler.

Wabby knows that Michelle Obama is not anti-American. He knows that she just overstated her joy at seeing the country rally around her husband's campaign. I went to an Obama training session this weekend just for grins. This is the first time in my memory that the Texas primary is meaningful. I was amazed at the enthusiasm of the people attending this event. I have not seen this degree of support or enthusiasm for a candidate during a campaign in all of the races that I have participated in.

Attacking the Senator's wife for being overjoyed at this enthusiasm is just silly. However the GOP is going to try to manufacture some sort of grounds to attack Senator Obama and we can expect more silliness like this.

I think the comment is deeply troubling in that it MIGHT reveal an antipathy towards this country that I don't need in those who fill key national leadership roles.

My kids are African American and they can tell you how really tough it can be (yup, even in this great land of ours), but they are also deeply grateful that they live here and have had the many opportunities they have had (and, hey, that's coming from kids who had nothing but the hardest kind of luck coming into this world - drug and alcohol addiction in utero - no fault of their own, but they make the very, very best of it and they're blessed that they can).

By wimp, do you mean Rush or Cheney? Would non appearance at the TANG be what you mean?
This nation was and can be again a great place. Currently it is being held down by people without ethics or principles. Once those who would rape America of it's wealth get out of power we should get back to being the lighthouse of the world!

Here is a nice defense of Mrs. Obama's remarks by Senator Obama. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/20/obama-defends-wife-over-_n_87566.htmlBarack Obama, interviewed on WOAI radio in San Antonio, Texas, expressed frustration that his wife's comments became political fodder.

"Statements like this are made and people try to take it out of context and make a great big deal out of it, and that isn't at all what she meant," Obama said.

"What she meant was, this is the first time that she's been proud of the politics of America," he said. "Because she's pretty cynical about the political process, and with good reason, and she's not alone. But she has seen large numbers of people get involved in the process, and she's encouraged."
