Why do we have children? The instinct was put in us so the human race would not die out. Without the desire to have children, would the human race still be here?
I would like to know how many children each of you have. Did you have more children then you had planned on?
Was it the woman, man, or both in the union that wanted the children?

Good hot monkey love needs no children. Just a stiff dick and a good opening.

I've always wanted kids, I've always wanted to be a mother. I like doing things for them, like watching them grow and change, and I did want to see myself go on in the next generation through having children.
I have two, I would have liked another, but we didn't feel like we could afford it. My husband was just as anxious to have children as I was, which I haven't found to be unusual. My Dad wanted kids very much, just as much as my Mom.

I have three. My third was a surprise child. My ex wanted kids too. My dad wanted 6 kids and my mom wanted two. They had five.
Most men that I know that have had children have wanted them.

We had 2 kids to pass on our lineage. My husband would have been happier with more, but I knew we could only afford 2. By afford, I mean to food, clothe, education, and let them experience life to the fullest. :)
My parents only had 2 children. My father is 1 of 3, ,my mother is 1 of 2.
My husband is 4 out of 5 children in his family. His father was 6 of 8, his mother is 1 of 4.

DH and I both have one sibling each - he has an older sister and I have a younger brother. We both knew we wanted children - we never really discussed how many or when and DD was a welcome surprise. Since she was born, we didn't try or not try to have any more it just sort of worked out that we were very content with just having one child.
Some days I regret that she won't have a sibling, but others, I'm glad we can focus all our attention and resources on her.
What I'm finding interesting is that most of her really close friends are also only children. She's got a handful of friends with older or younger siblings but for the most part, five that she hangs with most, are only children.

Both of my grandmothers had 10, and both were 48 when their last was born. Sheeesh! I'm one of 5 girls and had 5 girls myself. Or, as their father put it, one girl, and the rest attempts to have a boy. He said that, not me. I have 13 grandchildren, and four greats. Most of whom are boys. All of my children were wanted by me. And I wanted girls because I didn't feel comfortable with boys, never having been around them, but it wasn't up to me. I only produced x's. He was the decider.

I have 4 kids... I never thought I'd have any but I wanted 2. I had 2 boys first, then tried for a girl and got a bonus twin.
Only the girls were truly planned by both of us, Boy#2 was my idea, and Boy#1 proved the doctors wrong :yep

Did they also want a new car?
Most men I have observed that REALLY wanted kids:
- were just as anxious to leave them and their wife around age 40.
- others were simply not good parents.
If we agree we are short clean water, clean air, various commodities, high paying jobs (as China extends it's economy), etc, what does the future hold for the kids born today.
Today, the average USA population density is 90 people per square mile. In about 30-40 years (2045) this will double to 180 people, then by 2080 there will be 360 people average per square mile.
Remember, that land per person must supply the grain, water, cattle, oil, air, waste disposal, etc, for each person.
I suspect, places like Arizona, Nevada or New Mexico will be the first places to have major problems. Any little hiccup will cause a catastrophe, with millions of people trying to escape. It will make Katrina look like a Scout outing.
IMHO, I'd plan ahead.

I don't know where you meet so many men who want to leave their kids, or women who are so low down. I'm not picking on you, I like you a lot, but I just haven't seen this among my friends and coworkers. I have worked with a lot of welfare clients and found often that the fathers were just sperm donors, but that wasn't the case with them, either.

If you are not age 35 yet, you haven't seen it among your friends. Look to those a bit older, like 40.
Women divorcees always tell me how naive they were.

I don't know.
The only thing that may be unique is population growth has been pretty fast in the city where I live. Everyone is from somewhere else. But I think a lot of America is like this now.
Year Population
1960 3,695
1970 17,872
1980 72,331
1990 128,713
2000 222,030
We have two a boy and a girl. Two years apart, Skyler is 9 and Destiny is 7.
Momma picked Skyler's name and I picked Destiny's.
Funny thing is that when she was pregnant with Skyler I said it was a boy and iwhen she was with Destiny I said it was a girl, before the doctor did.
No more kids I got that fixed.

I have 2 kids - twin girls. I never wanted any more than 2 kids. Very briefly I thought about how nice it may be to have a son, but I'm so done having kids.
My husband is happy with 2 kids. He absolutely does not want any more. :yep
Kids are expensive. :lol

I have 3 children and one on the way. I always wanted 4 children. bbrown always wanted 2 so we compromised are 4 ;) (Actually bbrown didn't want children if their life was going to be like his was growing up. Once he figured out that would never happen with us he now wants 4.)
I am the oldest of 3 as is my husband. Siblings are such a blessing to the children.
Thankfully we are blessed and worked very hard the first 10 years of our marriage to be able to have 4 children. Because of my fertility issues we had to use expensive treatment and adoption to build our family. I currently don't have a uterus so having any more spontaeously is out for us.
For us we are able to provide all we want for 4 children. I would not have had so many if I would have had to sacrifice something from the others lives to do so. (ie college education or something like that)

I think siblings are important. I tried having more children when my oldest was about 4. None came...I started talking to adults that were only children. They all said they wished they had siblings so their children would have aunts and uncles. I thought I would never have another child, and then when my first child was 8, I ended up getting pregnant. It's a lot of years between children, I sure don't recommend it.

I wonder if there are people who had siblings that wish they had been only children?
As an only child, I wanted to adopt two children.
I ended up giving birth to FOUR children! Currently, they are 21, 18, 12, 11.

Cassandra; it's called personal responsiblity, which you have taken in bringing children into this world. :thumbsup
Sunny; my sister's best friend had her 2nd child, 13 years apart. When one will be enter Kindergarten the other will be entering college. But, it was accident. :shrug
Issac; I think my 12 year old would have been happy to been an only child. :sad
My sister and I weren't close growing up, due to family influences. But, we are now. I regret missing out on our younger years. :sad

My third child was my surprise child...when she was born my oldest daughter was starting 9th grade. My son started kindergarten at that time, he is the child that was 8 years younger than the first. So I had a newborn...one in kindergarten, and one was a freshman in high school...I do not recommend it...Life is full of surprises...what is it that Forest Gump said...Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. I love each one of my children and am thankful I was able to have them.
We have none. Wanted some?? Of course!! We were both "depression babies" though and getting started wasn't that easy. As for my part...I lived in a time when there was some basis on which to make plans etc. Well, the two bombs: atomic and hydrogen, went off and the missiles etc. came: I considered, generally, the things Toxic mentioned, my better half either agreed or didn't disagree and that was it. We have been together 53 and some years:yep:cool:salute

Congrats on being married that long!! Woohoo!!!
My question for you, Jim, is this...did you get near any of the bombs and suffer from fallout? The reason I ask is that you look a little alien. :para
