WASHINGTON (CNN) — The nation’s top two intelligence officials flew
secretly this month to Pakistan, where they met with President Pervez Musharraf
and other Pakistani officials to discuss terrorism, a U.S. intelligence
official said Sunday.

The Jan. 9 meeting with Mike McConnell, director of national
intelligence, and Gen. Michael Hayden, CIA director, was first reported in
Sunday editions of the New York Times.

The men “talked about ways to further cooperate in the war on terror,”
said the official, who described the talks as “productive.”

The official added that agreement was reached on a variety of issues, but
did not specify what.

This is POLITICAL how???The bush so called war on terra has been a flop in part because of the reliance on Pakistan and the effects of the invasion of Iraq. Bin Ladin is still at large and Al Qaeda has rebuilt back to its former strenght because the US has alienated so much of the Muslim world and wasted so many resources in Iraq. The political condition in Palkistan and the US support of the current Pakistan govt is indeed relevant given that such govt is unable to assist in dealing with Bin Ladin and Al Qaeda due to its support of the United States.

The instability in Pakistan is also scary in that this is a muslim country with atomic weapons. If the current govt. fails, then it is not clear who will get control of these weapons. Again, the reason that the current govt is weak is due to the fact that the United States and bush are very unpopular in the Muslim world for the stupid invasion of Iraq.

I hope that this simple explanation of the political implications of the failed bush foriegn policy efforts is simple enough for you to follow.
