Utah - of all places. :roll
I'm all for co-habited couples adopting. Same sex, opposite sex, whatever. More than 50% of marriages end in divorce anyways. So why does one need to be legally married to adopt?
And furthermore - one lesbian could adopt a child, but a couple cannot?

The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting on the battle gaining momentum against Utah's adoption ban, which was passed in 2000. Utah is one of three states with the adoption prohibition.
Fair-minded advocates hope to get adoption restrictions on all co-habitating couples, including same-sex couples, lifted. Representative Rebecca Chavez-Houck, a Democrat representing Salt Lake City, is sponsoring the bill.
The Williams Institute recently found that 19 percent of Utah's same-sex couples are raising children together. It estimates the number of children at 1,226.
The research group also discovered that same-sex couples live in every county of the state. Salt Lake County has 1,964 lesbian and gay couples.
