The Human Rights Campaign Foundation has placed two Central Texas-based companies among the country's best places to work for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender workers.

Dell Inc. (NASDAQ: DELL) and Freescale Inc. earned spots on the 2008 "Best Places to Work for GLBT Equality." San Antonio-based media company Clear Channel Communications Inc. (NYSE: CCU) and telecommunication company AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T), both of which employ a significant number of people in Austin, also earned spots on the list.

The designation is given to those companies that earn perfect scores on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Corporate Equality Index. It is a measurement, the organization says, that ensures that 10 million employees have protections on the job on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

The 2008 Corporate Equality Index listed a record 195 large businesses on the report, up from 138 from last year. This is a 41 percent increase.

The Human Rights Campaign is the country's largest advocacy organization for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees. The group is based in Washington, D.C.

I don't own a Dell. But, I am in the market for a new laptop for myself and I do believe, after reading this thread. It may be a Dell!
I did try to buy one for my son, for Christmas. But the color he wanted was out of stock and we had other, online ordering problems with them. So, at that point, I was "soured" on Dell.
I may have just been "un-soured" and sweetened and will give them a second shot!
