I got a call from my sister that lives in Beaverton, OR. I can barely afford to say the word, let alone live there. :lmao She and her husband are ulta liberal....in a good way. :lmao Anyhow....her oldest in now in 1st grade. My nephews report card came home yesterday. She called the school....."why are you still doing the Satisfactory, Needs Work, ect for his performance..I don't know what he needs work on or what he's really excelling in". She was told they don't give letter grades until 8th grade!!!! Almost laughed out loud on the phone when my sister said "This PC crap has gone too far, now we're afraid to hurt our kids feelings if we give them letter grades?" Priceless moment for me. :lmao On the flip side, my kids have always had letter grades and my 4th graders elementary school does straight out percentages. Crazy. We need a National education program

We do E, S, and U for lower grades, letter grades starting in the 6th grade.
Grades are soooo subjective, at all levels of education.

I'm for the percentages. But my daughter was out sick with her appendectomy surgery...after all the school she missed she got a 94.8%...come on....she's 8 years old give her the 95%. :lmao

OB I completely agree with you, PC crap has gotten so far out of hand.
Course I also think that there is no difference between 94.8% and 95%. They both are the same grade. People place far too much importance on those miniscule differences in percentage and then parents and kids get hung up on it.
Some grades are subjective, some are real. There are right answers to most questions in elemntary school. I live and have taught in AZ and we do letter grades starting in 2nd or 3rd grade. I think that is fine. Constructive feedback is good for children.

My two oldest kids went to school in Oregon. Thirty some years ago. And they were not given letter grades. Pass/fail/satisfactory. This in not a pc thing. The two younger kids went to school in Washington, and they got the same kind of grades. Pc is not responsible for everything.

My sister and I both graduated from public schools and Michigan State University, we always got letter grades. Wonder why OR does that?

Education has been trend driven for decades. Only recently have they started looking at actual data to determine what works best.
