LYNCHBURG, Va. -- A Christian advocacy group has some advice for Christians as they prepare to do their Christmas shopping: Don't shop at stores that censor the word "Christmas."

As part of its Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign, Liberty Counsel has released its fifth annual "Naughty and Nice" list of stores seeking to attract gift buyers.

The "Naughty List" names stores that make no mention of Christmas in their advertising, vaguely observing the "season" or "holiday" instead. The list includes Gap, Kohl's, Bloomingdale's and Marshalls, to name a few.

The "Nice List" consists of stores that still name the reason for the season. Some stores on that list include Macy's, Wal-Mart, Target and Toys R Us.

Both can be viewed on Liberty Counsel's Web site.

Liberty Counsel's Steve Crampton said stores have the right to advertise any way they want, but Christians have the right to shop at stores that recognize their holiday.

What a lotta hooey. It's silly to think that Wal-Mart mentions Christmas because the corporate hot shots give a damn about religion. It's done because they think it will sell more Chinese-made crap!

Wal-Mart is the store that wants to save you money so you can buy more Christmas. Whatever it is about, its not about Christ.

Christians tried to take a celebration from the common people and make it their. They lost, the people won. Give me a break. Get your own holiday. There is no Christ in Christmas, its a celebration to brighten the longest days of the year. With lights, singing, mistletoe, trees, drinks, food, and roaring fires and presents.

Bah humbug! However, I do agree with you that Christmas is something that's been "sold" to us by the retailers.

Happy Winter Solstice to all and to all a good, long night!

Why can't there be both? I'm Christian and I love the religious celebration of Christmas. But I love the secular celebration, too - and the fact I enjoy the lights, singing, mistletoe, trees, drinks (especially the drinks! :santa), food, roaring fires and presents doesn't make me LESS of a Christian nor does it mean I should get nutso crazy and boycott any store that doesn't say 'Merry Christmas' if I walk in or allow the Salvation Army to ring their little bells outside the main door.

But I loathe Wal-Mart so I don't give a rats ass what they do - I still won't set foot in that store!

Now there is a statement I can agree with. Even if I have to pay a dollar more for something, I won't cross the doorstep of a Wal-Mart.

Yeah, because Jews and Pagans (whose celebrations during this season go much further back in history than Christianity) have absolutely nothing to celebrate this time of year. [/sarcasm]

Great post. I mean except the hating Wal-Mart part. :snicker
