WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Two days after the State Department's inspector-general recused himself from decisions involving security contractor Blackwater, his brother resigned as an adviser to the company, Blackwater said, and the inspector-general's lawyer asked the head of the House Oversight and Government Affairs Committee to cancel further hearings on the matter.

Alvin "Buzzy" Krongard, a former No. 3 official at the CIA, resigned Friday from his position on Blackwater's advisory committee, the company said.

Also on Friday, the inspector-general's lawyer asked Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., who leads the House Oversight and Government Affairs Committee, to abandon plans for another hearing in early December.
