FedEx Corp.'s busiest day this year is expected to be Dec. 17, when the package shipper expects to break its all-time volume record.

About 11.3 million packages are expected to move through the FedEx Express and FedEx Ground global networks on Dec. 17, compared to 7 million packages on an average day.

Frederick W. Smith, chairman, president and CEO of FedEx, said in a statement that while overall economic growth has slowed, there are "several indicators for a healthy holiday season."

"Consumer spending remains steady and e-commerce will continue to drive holiday spending while sales of luxury goods and electronics should remain strong," he said.

Online sales will approach $42 billion in the fourth quarter of 2007, compared with $35 billion during the last holiday season, an 18.5 percent increase, according to TNS Retail Forward. However, according to the National Retail Federation, overall holiday spending is projected to increase only slightly to $474.5 billion, a 4 percent rise over 2006.

Memphis-based FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) said it expects its units to perform as follows during the pre-holiday season:

* FedEx Ground projects it will handle its highest package volume ever, 7 million packages, on Dec. 10.
* FedEx Express will deliver 5 million packages on Dec. 17.
* FedEx SmartPost expects its busiest day will be Dec. 3, with 1.9 million shipments moving through the network.
* fedex.com is expected to break records this season, too, processing an average of almost 6.5 million online tracking requests per day.

Now........here's something you may not know....

UPS ships a lot more stuff than FedEx...so I would expect that their volumn will be huge! Than there is DHL who has made large inroads into this market share.

Business is Booming, in spite of the dollar woes and price of gas and media hype bashing Bush!
Makes ya kinda wonder huh?

Maybe for you 'n me Wabby, but how do you explain what's happenin' to so many others?

Just to mention a few, the American dollar is down, ungodly mortgage foreclosures,
and when was the last time you shopped in a grocery store...for a family of five?

Furthermore, just because Fed Ex expects to do record business may be due to the FACT that less folks will be able to visit loved ones during the holidays because of rising consumer prices and diminshing disposable income, they're gonna have to mail Christmas gifts coz after buying the gift they can't afford anything but to MAIL IT!
