Woman Ordered To Stop Spreading Hate On Internet

(Ottawa) A Canadian Human Rights Tribunal has ordered a Calgary woman to stop posting hate messages against minority groups on a U.S.-based white supremacist website.

The commission fined Jessica Beaumont $1,500 for posting messages that hold Jews, gays, lesbians, Chinese, blacks, aboriginals and other non-whites up for hatred or contempt.

It also ordered Beaumont, 21, who once lived in British Columbia, to pay $3,000 in special compensation to a man about whom she posted hate messages.

``Ms. Beaumont is ordered to cease and desist from communicating or causing to be communicated any matter of the type contained in the messages that is likely to expose a person or persons to hatred or contempt,'' wrote tribunal member Athanasios Hadjis.

In its judgment released Friday, the tribunal said Beaumont admitted posting more than 1,000 messages on the website under the pseudonym ``Jessy Destruction.''

``The truth is that Canada helped save the Jews from Hitler,'' reads one posting.

``How do these Jewish bastards thank us? By undermining our society. Conquering our nation from within. Then while these Jews are in the process of destroying our nation and systematically driving White Canadians into extinction, they pass hate-speech laws making it illegal to just talk about it.''

Richard Warman filed the complaint with the Canadian Human Rights Commission.

The tribunal said Warman has also filed a criminal complaint with the British Columbia Hate Crime Team but no criminal charges have been laid.

Neither Beaumont nor Warman was immediately available for comment.

How can one stop such hate speech? Hate speech falls very closely to free speech. Some people are annoying and I know everyone on this board has run into someone who, in their opinion, would be using hate speech. The better thing to do is just run far from those people.
