Going to test you to see if your really from SD! Just kidding, I am going up there this next summer and was curious about a couple of things?
How far from Rapid City is Mt Rushmore and Deadwood?
Whats the name of the famous Horse that was at the Fort in SD, and survived Wounded Knee?
Ever hear of Alice Tubbs? How big is Sturgis?
I wiil have more before I go, but my wife is a history buff and was curious what you knew?

Well I might be able to answer these, and I can tell you one thing where I was at today, I think you can fit the State into a couple of their pastuers?
Damn what a big place I don't know how the hell they keep track of everything, and I spent 7 hours looking around, talking about the horses and I found out they raise Race Horses, even had a Triple Crown Winner in the 40's! The main house is huge, and I can't describe the architecture, but its daned nice believe me!
Now Your questions!
Rushmore is about 25 miles from Rapid, and while your there check out Needles Highway!
The horse you talk about was Comanche and he was quartered at Ft Meade and then went to St Louis I think, where I heard he would answer the bugle calls and lead Parades just like he like he was trained, BUT without a rider or anyone giving him commands!!
Poker Alice is who you are thinking of and she played during Hickcock's days at Deadwood and her last job was in a gambling joint in Omaha in the 20's!
Sturgis is about 6,500 except in August for 2 weeks it balloons to close to 20,000, with the bikers!
Be sure to check out Spearfish and take the Canyon road back into the hills! Frank Lloyd Wright the great Architect said this canyon was more inspiring than the Grand Canyon, and I agree! Good Luck its a nice trip!

Do you like talking to me, do you find me interesting, is my story funny???? That Dubya? That Rifleman scene is funny anyone who ever shot, knows hip firing a 44-40 Winchester is difficult and being accurate is really a feat!! I seen Roy Rogers at full gallop slied sideways under Triggers belly, and fire his .45 at a crook behind a boulder, knocking the gun out the guys hand!! Wow!! I tried that a few years later and shot my horse!!!!!!!!....Not really, but damn what a shot! My Dad sent off for a bunch of old TV shows when I was a kid and watching Roy, Gene, Hoppy, Boston Blackie, Lash Larue and others were actually entertaining!
I liked that trip, and I was really impressed with the King Ranch, and they do a lot of work with TX A & M, and I didn't know they were in the oil business or raised Race Horses? The people that run the place now are from Houston, as the old Family are no more than figureheads these days! I might be buying a Quarter Horse from them and if I do my line up here will be upgraded! Its between them and a Ranch in Nebr that has a great line of Quarterhorse stock! I get to the Metroplex about every couple of Months as I have two accounts there, 1 in Dallas and 1 in Ft Worth! Someday time permitting, I will fly to Dallas, rent a car and take a week or so and drive the Southern part, down to Austin, San Antone, and Galveston etc...
I went home and Calamity was supposed to get a Pest Control outfit in for normal winter maintenance, sraying etc...Well she see's a BARGAIN outfit and thinks I'll surprise Ringo and save a lot of money! Well the guy shows up and he he was cut rate allright, as his equiipment was a can of Raid and a rolled up magazine!! Way to be Calamity, savin bucks in the fast lane!!:paclap:inlove:lol

I like the plan, small town Americana, the heart & soul of the Nation! 281 runs all the way up here and to the Canadian Border! I fly a lot but its not by choice, as sometimes I need to be in certain places fast, but I love travelling by car! My goal is to financialy independent and stable by 50, and so far thats working, business is good and I am moving into other areas so good investments should withstand a downturn of the economy! What I said was a fancy phrase for I want to be rich, filthy rich, madly in love with the dollar:devil....SOMEBODY STOP ME!!!:ringo See ya on 281 someday!!

I'm sold, within the next year or so when I go to Dallas I'll add a few days and check things out!
I just finished painting the fence around the new corral were building and it appears I have ONE fully painted pair of pants, ONE fully painted shirt, and a partially done fence! I think Calamity said something about never throwing my work clothes in the washer with any of her "delicates", but hmmm she didn't say anything about these whites, so I'll guess I'll surprise her!!

Sorry for the late look in Ringo, but have a couple of pretty serious cases I'm assigned to, so I have been busy as hell! This is my first whole day off in two weeks as crime doesn't set a schedule.
Spearfish Canyon eh, it must be damned nice to get the attention of Wright and many others, and I feel bad because if someone asked me all I could tell them about SD was that is where the 4 Faces are. I will check these out and my wife wants to know where Wild Bill is buried, I thought Kansas, but she says she read it was in SD? Again thanks, and if you need any Missouri info feel free to ask, I know the state well.

I was in a business similar to yours and to a degre still am. so I know the drill of BEING there when it happens! The difference between Spearfish and the Grand, is the fact you can dribve through Spearfish, and its not near as deep or unforgiving!
Wild Bill is up on Mt Moriah next to Calamity Jane(the real one), and Mt Moriah is in Deadwood, the same place he was gunned down! Many of the settlers that launched Deadwood are there, and its an interesting place to visit!
