The Iraqis think that they are a real government and that they can call the shots in their own country (including overruling a decree from the bushies). http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/004543.phpThe metaphorical statue of L. Paul Bremer III has come crashing down. Today the Iraqi government formally revoked one of the Coalition Provisional Authority's enduring vestiges -- a decree of immunity from prosecution in Iraqi courts for U.S. security contractors. The Iraqi government announced on Wednesday that it has decided to formally revoke the immunity from prosecution granted to private security companies operating in the war-ravaged country.
"The cabinet held a meeting yesterday and decided to scrap the article pertaining to security companies operating in Iraq that was issued by the CPA (Coalition Provision Authority) in 2004," government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said in a statement.
"It has decided to present a new law regarding this issue which will be taken in the next cabinet meeting."Expect a massive controversy to follow. What will the State Department do if Iraqi judges issue arrest warrants for American contractors? Will heavily-armed contractors submit to Iraqi warrants, or will they openly defy the law of an allegedly sovereign country? More to come.

Some of the contractors are thinking about leaving Iraq if they do not have immunity. Talk about cutting and running. http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/004549.phpThe private security industry is trying to make sense of the announcement today from Baghdad that the Iraqi government is revoking a CPA-era edict, known as Order 17, immunizing contractors from prosecution in Iraqi courts. Some believe that the State Department will succeed in an anticipated attempt to prevent Americans from appearing before an Iraqi judge, while warning that if a full revocation succeeds, American companies or individual contractors might simply up and leave Iraq rather than potentially face charges in an immature justice system

The US pretty much does not allow Americans to be tried in other countries. It is often unfortunate, because some Americans do some awful things in other countries, and should be held accountable.
I hope that Bush respects the Iraqis right to govern their own country. I don't have much hope though. A likely scenario is that Blackwater has already decided to leave and go on to bigger and better government contracts, and Bush will make it look like he is respecting the Iraqis. Either way, the Iraqis will be spared the cowboys butchering their people.

I know that 99% of what happens there is caused by the fact that we are there and if we would leave, it would quit happening. You have somehow come to the conclusion that daily bombings, shootings, and murders are good for the Iraqis and we should stay there and make sure it keeps happening.

You are the one that talks out your ass on a regular basis! Your post about cut and run is pure bullshit!Your reading comprehension is so limited that it is funny. Iraq is pretending to be a soverign country and may kick blackwater out or force blackwater to be subject to Iraqi law. It is blackwater who is going to cut and run if this happens.
As for talking out of one's ass, should we list all of the stupid comments you have made. It would be a very very long list.

My reading comprehension is just fine thank you. I understand what the situation is....your evaluation of it is what I question! I wouldn't term it as cut and run....it's more like to hell with these ingrats from a 7th century idealology, we are out of here! Many of the Iraq govts. top dogs are likewise protected by Blackwater. The Govt. is cutting off it's nose to spite it's face!
As for the long list! Get real...maybe in YOUR mind!
