I have a two day business meeting with Wells Fargo in Houston, and I am staying at the Doubletree Hotel in Dowtown. I suspect I will ahve a little time to look around, but what is a "MUST" see, anyone know? I will be going onto the South Padre area when done for a look at the King Ranch and some horse's, as they run a top notch operation, for having so little room! Close to a Million acres under fence, thats BIG!!

I've been to Houston Ringo. The best travel advice I can give you is that English is spoken there.

That might depend on which part of Houston he's in. :lmao
I know some good places, but I'm sure you're not interested, Ringo. :lol
Have a great time at the ranch, it's the BEST!

We go to Houston pretty regularly just to shop, eat out, go to the museums and zoo, etc.
I don't know if you'd be interested in any of that stuff, though. They have a fantastic ol' mall there. :yep

I love my King Ranch bags. :para
Anyways, I'm from Houston. I'd check out The Galleria if you like huge, obnoxiously crowded malls. The Houston Zoo is nice. The whole Hermann Park area is nice to visit. There are a few museums. You could take the Budweiser beer tour. :rofl :para Drive through River Oaks to see huge mansions & I love chilling in the Rice Village & down Westheimer/Richmond area. There are a TON of bars.
Houston isn't known for its tourism, sadly. And I can't really think of one MUST SEE there except please go eat at the Mason Jar for me. :rofl I miss my home town. :heart

The unfortunate thing about business trips is the fact your time doesn't belong to you, but the bright side is they are paying well for your time! I will make the high point the Ranch visit, and then we are off to Denver and then home!

Since you are in downtown, you can take a cab ride over to Otto's Barbeque on Memorial. It is not far from downtown and is G.H.W. Bush's favorite barbeque place. Otto's has a plate named after G.H.W. Bush called The Bush Plate which is really pretty good. My son and I love Ottos and usually have the Bush Plate when we eat there. Ringo will like the letters from GHW Bush on the wall and the articles about how Ottos catered an event at the G8 economic summit back during Bush 41's term.
There is a Otto's hamburger place in front and the barbeque place is in the back. They will direct you to barbeque place if you go into the wrong door but the hamburgers are not bad. You may want to hurry because one of my real estate partners has heard that the block where Ottos is located is for sale.
You may also want to try the original Ninfas on Navigation. It is not owned by the family but is still very authentic. I sent an academic challenge team from Virginia during the quiz bowl nationals a couple of years ago and these yankees raved about the place. The team from Virginia still beat up on my son's team and won the tournament but they were very appreciated about the recommendation.
Ottos is not the best barbeque place in Houston but is still better than average and has the contacts with GHW Bush. If you want the best barbeque place, then Goode Company on Kirby is a good place to go.

Are you going to be able to hunt at the King ranch? One of my clients has hunted there a couple of times and loved it. The King ranch has a bad reputation for dealing with hunters who stray onto their property and so the hunting is suppose to be excellant.

No I will be looking at their Quarter horse line and a small tour of the Ranch, followed by a Helicoptor flyover of the property, then its back to Corpus and off to Denver!
Don't hunt, as I am not big into killing animals, although on occassion I have had to take out a coyote or two, for the most part I leave Nature alone! I have people see my gun collection, that remarked I must be an avid hunter, and are surprised when I say not animals, although some I have tracked, acted worse, if ya get my drift??

Went out to eat a late breakfast, and we went out to the Space Center. Spent about 2 & 1/2 hours, when you need to spend a good 8, but it was very interesting! I say put it on you list and its mind boggling what the genius of man can do, especially American's!!
Going out to a nice restaurant, early to bed and up early for a trip to Corpus and then Kingsville! Looking forward to this, as I seem to have a ranching vein going through me, or maybe its just the horses?
Tonight I might look for Tanya Tucker or some Texas cowgirl to do the Houston shuffle, so I am tired enough to sleep good!
