sparks, you know I like to tell stories. :lol
You shoulda seen me when I had to load my big ass Doberman in the front seat of my 2 seater sports car. She collapsed in the bedroom so I had to drag her down a long hallway to the back porch slidin' glass door where I had pulled my car up. Then I had to get her in the seat 'n get to the vet's office quick. They were waitin' 'n helped me unload her so we could get her in the office 'n up on a table. It took 3 of us. She was a great dog, trained 'n everythin'. She's the only one I didn't bring home to bury. She got a grave with a tree out in a pet cemetery. All the others up in the city are in the back yard. And I've got separate graveyards for animals down here. I don't put strangers with my babies. My partner's lapdog has her own spot coz she used to harass MY cats. :lol

I have two pets buried in my yard. Sam was my Golden Retriever...he was 15when we had to put him down. It was to the point he couldn't really walk and his eyes and hearing were failing as well. He had gotten to the point where he stopped eating...he knew it was time.
We also have a Yorkshire Terrier buried at the back of the property too. Both graves are marked with rocks. Corky (the Yorkie) was 11 when he was attacked by a neighbor dog and had to be put down. Poor thing! It should have never happened that way...he was just playing in his own yard not bothering anybody.
Lucy was my cat that I had to put down a couple years ago. She was a Calico...and beautiful! She lost control of her bowels and couldn't contain herself. I think she knew it was time as well...she got real cuddly a few months before we put her down and that was not really like her. She was always very independent. She was 13 years old. We let the Vet dispose of her cause it was winter time when she was put down, otherwise we would have buried her in the yard too.

I hate this stuff!
He's groomin'.
Here's my dilemna: One time I stole this cat 'n took it to the vet. She weighed 3.0 lbs. The vet told me she was gonna die, that she was too old 'n emaciated to save. I told him I wanted to try so he prescribed some meds and gave me his blessing. I hand fed that cat every 3 hours for days 'n nights 'n talked to her the whole time. She did die...8 years later! Her name was Lovey, she was cool, slept by me with her paw on my hand.
Then my partner's dog, that damn lapdog she had to have 'n left to me when she died, that damn dog had a stroke. Daisy was 15 when she had the stroke, but did I think about that? Oh no, I rushed that damn thang to the miracle doctor that saved one of my cats that had cancer. I told him to do whatever he could for that damn dog. That damn dog lived another year, blind 'n deaf! Do you know what it's like to live with a blind 'n deaf dog?
Get this, during the time I'm takin' care of the damn deaf 'n blind lapdog, one of MY cats has a stroke. Phussie was only 9! She did not go to the miracle doctor. I was of the mind that pets are sometimes meant to die.
I have a feelin' this is gonna be a long day. :coffee

I'm so very sorry about Tar Baby, Kurtz. Damn, it's hard to lose a good friend.
We had sweet Scamper cremated. He 'lives' in a cool pottery bottle thingy with his collar around the neck. Occasionally I find the jar in front of a sunny window in a sunbeam. One of the 'kids' has put him there as it was his favorite place to lay. My son, Steve, nicknamed him 'Howdy Pup' as he was always at the door to greet us with a big wag and a grin when we came home. He was a mixed breed mutt who lived to be 14. I was away on a business trip when he had his last stroke. Poor ole G had to take him for his last ride.
We just had to have Mr.B put down. Isabella and I cried until we couldn't cry anymore. You and Brother will be in my thoughts today. :hug

My 14 year old cat died in 2005. We had to put our 16 year old dog died on Oct. 9. We were suppose to put her down before that, but it was my husband's first pet and he couldn't do it. Now we are waiting for a spot to open for a private cremation. So, she's sitting in the vet's freezer. I hate that. :sad

I thought about you too, OB 'n how quietly you handled it here on TPA.
I kinda wish I'd done the same coz now this has turned into a story tellin' thread. :lol That's one of the thangs I like about TPA, ya can wake up in the middle of the night 'n 9 times outta 10 find someone in here readin' 'n postin' their thoughts. TarBaby's blood tests are in the okay range for now. It appears he has somethin' rather large in his kidney. He's too weak to put under anethesia right now so the vet is gonna run some more tests to let me make more of an informed decision.
This vet is really great, he 'n I have worked together on many projects in North Texas 'n he knows my thinkin'. Hell, our conversations generally consist of one sez somethin' 'n the other sez 'that's right.' :lol
Anyway, that's where it is right now 'n I apologize for 'feminizin' TPA like this. :lmao

It really was so damn quick, he was fine just a day or so ago.
We took a chance to opt for exploratory surgery 'n poor li'l

My good vet said said it was a no brainer 'n gave me a big hug.
Then he told me he remembered the last time he helped me

wasn't gonna get any more kids. Then I showed up with Tar Baby!
I do have another cat, Lilly. In fact, I got little TarBaby for Lilly.

I thank the women who run this board for allowing the half of the population that needs to talk more, to do so. That took balls, if you'll pardon me for saying so. And I think some men who kept quiet found solace in the words they read here. They may not talk about their feelings, but we know they have them.

You only got Bailey cause I wanted a cat for Christmas! And I was the one who wanted to capture Lucy and bring her home. I was also the one who wanted to keep Cozmo when he adopted us.
And with Sam, you made the deal with Cliff, but it fell through and Brenda got the dog instead. I talked to Brenda and adopted Sam when she was having trouble with his nipping her kids.
Jonesy I picked out and adopted. Corky we both decided to get...so that's even. Candy was given to me by a friend and I decided to adopt her. Mandy I adopted.
Ok...you and Marge adopted Molly when Cork was missing and you went to the animal shelter to look for him. But something tells me it was more of Margie's idea to take Molly home than yours.
And Mr. Animal lover, wasn't it you who always talked about OPC's (other peoples cats)? You never wanted one yourself, you just wanted to enjoy other peoples cats instead! Animal lover my ass! :rofl

My first and I used to flip shit at each other. It was so much fun. And our friends used to love listening to us. You know that two people who do that really love one another.

Congrats on the house Vicki! Cool! :)
oooh, don't want to hijack the thread ... but thanks, friends... yes, closed today on a nice, little 4-bedroom home sitting on two acres, so plenty of room for the border collies to run (there, I redeemed a partial theme)... won't move in until Monday ... so still living down in an hotel room (with you know who) down here in TN...

Please, this has turned into a story thread, tell us yours. :hug
Two acres of runnin' ground sounds good for dogs.
I have woods behind my house for my last kitty to play in,
but she has a curfew coz of the predators down here. :para
And she's spozed to sleep in the bed with me. :max
Movin' in Monday is quick, you got it
all ready or you gonna be real busy?

The weather seems to be unwelcoming to ya today Viki
Well, OK ...
Let's see ... Melissa (yes, THAT one ... ) and I have this week bought a house, a truck, a gothic king-sized bedroom set, a mattress, furniture for my study, and a parlor set, not to mention all the linens, comforters, and pillows that a girl like me likes ... we've been planning this for two months and living out of an hotel room, while I make trips back and forth to PA (where a lot of my work and my two, adult kids are), with side trips to Phoenix, AR for some more work.
In fact, in the next 11 weeks, I'll pretty much be in TN one week and in another part of the country another, over and over and over again.
So, yes, because of the weather my trip back to PA, which was supposed to be tomorrow has been delayed until Monday, when I hope the weather will be better, and thank goodness the house is in move-in condition, because I'm leaving Melissa behind to meet and greet all the nice people who will be delivering furniture and such on Monday (and probably the whole week).
I won't actually get to spend a night there until next Friday night ... sigh...but I know she'll work hard to pull it together before then... I'll only have to girly decorating things (in fact, don't tell her, but I just spent a scad of money on the HSN website to buy all the goodies I'll need, in terms of holiday decorations, to host her entire clan for Thanksgiving dinner!!!
