A flavored-drinking straw created a bit of a scare at a Weatherford elementary school last week after two students took sips from the straw and said they felt sick.

A Bill W. Wright Elementary student brought a Sipahh straw to school on Oct. 4 and shared it with two friends, said Derik Moore, a Weatherford school district spokesman. “They didn’t know what it was and said they were sick,” he said. “They were scared.”

School officials did not recognize the Sipahh straw, a product that contains small flavored beads, and notified the police department, Mr. Moore said. The straw was then tested for amphetamines, and test results came back negative.

When the two friends learned that the straw contained strawberry-flavored beads, “they miraculously recovered,” Mr. Moore said.

According to the Sipahh Web site, the beads dissolve as milk passes through the straw giving the drink a strawberry, chocolate, banana or cookies and cream flavor.
