My highs school debate squad had a copy of Anarchists' Cookbook. The book has been published a couple of years before (only one edition because the author realized that he screwed up) http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7030096.stmThe 17-year-old, who was arrested in the Dewsbury area of West Yorkshire on Monday, was given bail after a hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

It is alleged he had a copy of the "Anarchists' Cookbook", containing instructions on how to make home-made explosives.

His next court hearing has been set for 25 October.

The teenager faces two charges under the Terrorism Act 2000.
One of my high school debate partners made some explosives and blew a small hole in an irrigation pipe without killing himself. The stuff was touchy and nearly blew up while he was handling it. According to my debate partner, the stuff was a little more powerful than a m-80 and that he had done more damage with three of four m-80s rubberbanded together. My partner's dad assumed that broken irrigation pipe was due to regular fireworks which were readily available back in those good old days.

The author of the book was trying to make the point about formulas and methods that were common knowledge at the time and went wrong. It is my understanding that the book has nevery been updated.

OMG. Owning the book should never be a crime in itself. I there's other evidence then I would agree the book could be used to support the case, but a book? Come on people.

Come on people. That is why I mentioned that my old high school debate squad had a copy of this book. The top students in two or three classes were on the squad and we all looked at this book. Knowledge and possession of a book should not be grounds for arrest.

BTW, remember that the Patriot Act allows the feds to access your library records to make sure that you are not reading bad books.

If your neighbor had a copy of the Turner Diaries & drove a Chevy 4X4, would the book make him a Klansman, would the truck make him a survivalist? We had a kid in my home town lose an arm when he stuffed match heads into a steel pipe with a fuse, the eqivalency of a half stick was achieved! We could burn C-4 or use it for cooking, but dare to stomp on it and you became 4th Violin in St Peters orchestra!

I downloaded a copy of the ACB long ago, when I expected it would get tampered with, but many versions seem to still be on the internet.

People, explosives are readily available for purchase. Plus, kids that are so inclined, need to be able to learn how to use them to create the next generation of designers.

People need to quit trying to ban everything. That will not make them safer.
