"Rainbow Bridge Poem
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…"

A week after my dad died, our 15 1/2 year old lab/huskey dog (kid before the kids, my rock during my spouses military deployment) had a stroke, June 5. Since the stroke she hasn't been able to get up on her own, but once we got her up, she could walk. That was 4 months ago, she hasn't ben able to walk much this weekend or lift her head. Tomorrow she'll cross Rainbow bridge and meet wih the cat she was raised with who died 2 years ago this month at the age of 14. I've never had to put down an family petl, so not sure if I'll be around much. Take care.

Godspeed to your furkid. We've lost 3 this summer, so they'll be there to meet and greet at the Bridge.

Our 15 year old dog "Blossom" died about a month ago. We had adopted her when Stormy was a baby, a pet for the child, a protector. She was the perfect dog. She watched over Stormy no matter where she was. As time went on and Blossom became more ill, Stormy became the protector of the dog, roles reversed.
One morning Stormy got up to go to school and Blossom came out to "help" her as usual. She went and laid down in my son's bedroom door. Stormy thought we needed to put her back in her bed and I told her I thought Blossom just wanted to be around us. I also told Stormy time was very short for our beloved Blossom. Stormy ahd no more than gotten out the door for school when Blossom laid down her head and quietly slipped away.

Does one ever get over missing a belved pet? I don't think so. As weird as it sounds, I can still hear her get up when I do. I can hear her walking on the hardwood floors. So, she may be gone, but she really isn't.

My last cat had died at the age of seven. In his prime. I missed him more than I did my husband when he died. My husband had become senile and no longer communicated or even knew who I was. Of course, I grieved him. Even though his body still lived. My cat was what kept me going. He seemed to know how lonely I had become. I still miss him.
