View Full Version : Limited Choices
...here's my problem: I've never been able to limit or describe myself as either liberal or conservative. Any chance we can offer a third alternative, something along the lines of "free thinker"?

I consider all people who think on their own to be free thinkers. Whatever they end up in the end is all due to their life experience, goals and perspective.

The two teams are for purposes of game playing. You can pick one team or the other--but not both.
I think 99% of us can't really be classified in only one of two categories, but for the sake of keeping things simple, we'll have two teams only.
Of course, you are not obligated to be in either.
But then, you are a party pooper. :rofl2

Oh, well, it was worth a try ... because I can assure you I'm neither conservative nor liberal and the "free thinking" label has a long (historical) tradition that communicates something explicitly different from repub, dem, libertarian, or socialist.

With religious...or rather non-religious connotations? I've heard Atheists refer to themselves as "free thinkers". However, I feel there is fallacy in that label for them. I don't think Atheists are any more free thinkers than anyone else...they just came to a different conclusion.

Gosh, Sparks, you are hot today (just responded to your question about the soul on another thread)!!!
For me (not historically) "free thinking" does, in fact, have "religious" connotations, in that my political perspectives tend to be influenced by my radically Christocentric perspective, in that I do think "What would Christ think/do?" and how does Christ's radical mercy "free" me from all of my and the culture's preconceptions so that I can take a fresh perspective on the issue before me, one that might clear out the cobwebs and let the newness of the Spirit shine through.
(Gosh, it MUST be Sunday morning ... I'm preaching without a pulpit!!!)

That's usually when the most original stuff comes to mind. Without the trappings of set or props.

Funny, no one has ever accused me of being a 'free thinker.' I think almost every one breaks out of their ususal bloc sometimes. In that regard, we are all free thinkers.

Sure, I play for Team Conservative, but don't let anyone tell you I'm not a free thinker when it comes to politics.
:frolic
Btw, Viki, I love your "radically Christocentric" perspective. :inlove
