I wish him the best as he is a fine man, a brilliant litigator, and has a big role in Americas future! I had a cousin who had a think what was called, a Grand Mall seizure or something, and they would scare the hell out of us! He ended up wearing a football helmet in case of falls!

A football helmet would add appropriate comic relief to his future decisions.

What nice thing could I say about a man who runs over civil liberties of the poor and weak, while protecting the rich and powerful? - Nothing comes to mind.

I guess if he was unable to serve now, no replacement would be approved for the Supreme Court till after the 2008 election.

It would be nice if your opinion of the man were based on one iota of fact, however, I would expect nothing but hatred from the left. This man is as smart as they come.

We will be a nice change from the delusional that imagine themselves as martial arts stars of "B" movies.

There is some Republican in Congress, or the Senate, ( I was only half listening ) who wants an investigation of Roberts, because he says the man lied in his testimony during the hearing on being confirmation. The reason it got my attention is because they said he was a Republican. That a Democrat might have said that wouldn't have suprised me.

Spector of course. They had no idea what Roberts was talking about in his confirmation hearings, because they are not half inteligent enough to understand what the man is talking about. I believe his word was "hoodwinked", only because the man ran circles around them with his knowledge of the law.

the best thing for us would be for anything bad to wait until after '08. then the next president would make the appointment. i hope he is feeling good! :drevil

Geez, the thought of someone being ill, already has the liberals drooling, with anticipation of his replacement. He simply fainted due to perhaps a case of undiagnosed "epilepsy" was the latest, as it "HAS" happened on one other occasion. I have never seen any political party obsessed as much with who sits on the Supreme Court, when ones ideology should be checked the moment they adorn the black robe of justice, just as Mr. Roberts does.

What the next order of business by "we the people" should be is an amendment to place term limits and oversight in dealing with this "rouge" element of our government. The only one that does not have to answer to the will of the people and are never subject to even the first ballot of confidence. A needed change to fix the only "flaw" in our system. As this is the very reason that the continued importance of "who" sets on bench seems to be most paramount to some that want the will of the peoples by-passed by legal opinion. BD

Your history on making comments on legal issues not inspiring. I am still waiting for you to explain how Scooter Libby was not convicted on obstruction of justice. That claim was truly amusing.

Back to the topic. Here is an interesting article on CJ Roberts. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/01/health/01seizure.html?_r=2&th=&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&emc=th&adxnnlx=1186087857-9yNZqI6V1u/u3XqeOEHMeg&oref=sloginBecause the seizure was his second — he had a similar one in 1993 — he meets the criteria for epilepsy, and he and his doctors will have to decide whether he should take medication to prevent further seizures, said neurologists not involved in his care. (Neither the chief justice nor his doctors would comment yesterday.)

The decision will involve weighing the risk of more seizures against the risk of side effects from the drugs. Major seizures can be a frightening and traumatic experience for patients and family members. Patients are advised to avoid heights and not to swim alone, and many states bar them from driving until they can provide evidence that the disease is under control.

But the drugs can have troubling side effects, including drowsiness or insomnia, weight loss or weight gain, rashes, irritability, mental slowing and forgetfulness. Many patients can be treated with minimal side effects, doctors say, but it may take trial and error to find the right drug.....

About 2.7 million people in the United States have epilepsy, and in 70 percent of the cases the cause is unknown, according to the Epilepsy Foundation. Neurologists sometimes describe seizures as an electrical storm in the brain, a brief episode of heightened activity that can cause mild symptoms that are barely noticeable, or loss of consciousness and convulsions, as in the case of the chief justice.

“If he takes medication, he is likely to do fine and be seizure-free,” said Dr. Gregory L. Barkley, a neurologist who specializes in epilepsy and is clinical vice chairman of the neurology department at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

Dr. Barkley said he did not expect the illness or the treatment to affect the chief justice’s ability to do his job. For better or worse, CJ Roberts has a medical condition that needs to be monitored and perhaps treated with some fairly powerful drugs. While this should not affect his job, it is something to be watched.
