Just to reinforce the stereotypes-last night we went out to eat with some friends. The place is famous locally, they have a meat and two menu and on Friday and Saturday night they have music.
During the meal, a big rain came up-and the roof started leaking right beside our table. They had to put a big pot under the leak, and everybody went on about their business. :lmao

How funny! But as long as you did not get wet and the food was good, what more can you ask for? :teehee

Hush puppies are cornmeal mixed with water, egg, hopefully chopped onions and hot peppers. They are deep fried. I don't care for them. Frog legs are good. So are pickled pigs feet, and chicken feet. Gotta love southern cooking.

I've never had any of that, other than frog legs, and that was in a french restaurant. Probably prepared differently. :think

We dined on fried green tomatoes yesterday, they were delicious. Hubby had never had them before (he's a Yankee from Iowa) Had green grapes for dessert.
I have Fanny Flagg's recipe for the tomatoes. :yum
It was a green day! Anybody want the recipe?

Frog legs I can do without.
If you ever get to East Texas and don't try David Beard's hush puppies you have missed a treat. :yum
You can buy them frozen in that area too but I prefer to have them at one of his catfish places along with the green tomato pickles which are made locally.
Their buldings are very rustic but so far no rain buckets.
Good story, TB. I love going to Miller's Grocery. There's a tiny little Post Office across the street. Great place to run in for stamps 'cause there's usually no waiting.

Old Mississippi saying: they fry everything, including the salad. Actually they kind of do. Wilted lettuce. Ever eat it. It beats that uppity wannabe, spinach salad.
